I wish I'd have known then what I know now...
I remember my first teaching assignment. I was terrified. I was just out of my credential program. I had a handful of substitute teaching experiences under my belt but no idea how to set up my first classroom. In fact, it was years before I got the hang of it.
Before I knew there was a better way, I'd spend my summer months pinning classroom decor ideas to my Pinterest board, mapping out my classroom setup, buying bulletin board borders and decorations, and calling the school office to find out how early I could come in and pick up my classroom keys.
I'd spend weeks of my own personal time [unpaid] telling myself and my family the same lie over and over again, "If I could just get into my classroom early and get everything set up, I'll be ahead of the curve and I'll have a less stressful school and be able to spend more time at home."
After 20+ years as a Pre-K to Fifth-grade classroom teacher, I've figured out a few things.
